The Authoritarian Interference Tracker (AIT) is an interactive, open-source database that catalogs publicly documented incidents of state-sponsored interference carried out by Russia, China, and Iran in Europe and North America. Use the filters below to single out specific incidents according to their type or location or to explore overarching trends. Click on any incident for more details and for their respective sources.

Counts note: the headline number is unique incidents matching your filters. Charts below count activity slices (per actor, per year, per type), so a single multi-year, multi-actor incident can appear several times across a chart. Chart totals will usually exceed the headline for this reason.

Disclaimer. From 2017 to 2025, the AIT was maintained at the Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD), an initiative that was housed at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Following ASD’s merger with ISD-US in January 2026, the AIT is now an ISD-US tool. ISD has recently updated the tool’s methodology, added a new threat actor (Iran), and overhauled its preexisting dataset. Currently, the AIT’s dataset is updated from 2022 to the present day; we are still working to backfill gaps in the dataset from 2014 through 2021.
